Detox Is The First Step In Successful Drug Rehab
Drug Rehab is something that we’ve all heard about. The news and tabloids can always be counted on to be running with at least one or two stories about entertainment industry types who are entering rehab, already in rehab or due to be released from rehab. Keeping track of the comings and goings seems to be an entertainment in itself. Besides the fact that we have a pretty fuzzy idea of what rehab is, we frequently hear about detox as part of the same story. So what’s the difference between rehab and detox anyway? Do people have to choose between one or the other, or is one needed for more extreme cases of substance abuse while the other is a less intensive form of treatment?
The short answer is that this is a trick question. While the two often get confused for being competing treatments, Drug Detox is actually a crucial initial component of the rehab process; rehab cannot be successfully completed without the patient first undergoing detox. Drug addictions are physiological in nature, but addicts also develop a metabolic dependancy on the substance they’re addicted to. This dependancy has to be broken. Medicinal and physical therapy, carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient, are required before treatment can progress. Detox can be very difficult and without proper care and support, many addicts give up before completing it. Patients must be closely monitored by doctors and medical staff through the entire detox process to ensure that are able to progress beyond the difficult period of drug withdrawal.
Going back to the entertainment industry and rehab stories, you almost always notice that in the check-in or check-out photos, the celebrities are pictured outside of some posh grounds that would easily pass for a luxury hotel or a resort. Many people assume that these people seek out luxurious accommodations because they don’t want to slum it while undergoing treatment. While that may be the case, another important reason for choosing a Drug Rehab Center that offers an upscale residence and wide range of amenities goes back to detox and the treatment that follows. Detox can leave patients feeling wrung out and exhausted as well as physically ill. Comfortable surroundings and access to relaxing activities like swimming, spa treatments, good quality food or massages can mean the difference between quitting and sticking it out.
So the next time you read about a celebrity and the time they spent in some deluxe ultra-resort rehab, you know that the need for privacy and luxury isn’t just because of some sense of wealthy entitlement. There are certainly plenty of nondescript, strictly clinical, mass-market options for treating drug addiction out there. However, Drug Rehab Centers that employ leading practitioners, offer comfortable surroundings and individualize treatment to each patient’s needs tend to boast the highest addiction recovery success rates.
